Nobel Prize Winners in Economic Sciences 2025

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has awarded the 2025 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel to Joel Mokyr, Philippe Aghion, and Peter Howitt “for their contributions to understanding innovation-driven economic growth.”

Half of the prize is awarded to Joel Mokyr for identifying the fundamental conditions that enable sustained growth through technological progress, and the other half is shared by Philippe Aghion and Peter Howitt for developing the theory of sustained growth through creative destruction.

NOBEL PRIZE ANNOUNCEMENTS on 6–13 OCTOBER 2025

The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel was established in 1968 to mark the 300th anniversary of the bank. The award ceremony is held on 10 December, commemorating the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s passing.

Each year, the laureates in economic sciences are selected and their names are announced in mid-October, with the results published on the websites of the Academy and the Nobel Foundation.
